I grew up in a fishing family. Childhood environment provides today its contribution to my visual world, not only as a piece of nature, but also mentally. Self concept is about freedom and independence,
and solidarity is not a contradiction. The sand and the water as the foundation in life lends itself to guard against stuffiness and stagnation, and social mobility depends very much of nature's whims. The icelandic writer, Kristin Baldursdottir, gives cheerful
and precise descriptions of the women in this environment, some of them a bit mad, but mostly strong, independent and in my eyes sometimes magical. The women from childhood country, became a serie of pictures, "The women at midsummer" that I have worked with
for some years.
